Jada Pinkett-Smith has been very vocal about her relationship with slain rapper-poet-actor Tupac Shakur and her appearance on Friday’s Arsenio was no different.

“Pac was probably one of the first male figures that I had in my life that saw the beauty and the talent and my intelligence, separated from sex. That’s something that a young girl usually gets from the is father; I didn’t have that. ‘Pac was the first one that it was about sex. It was about ‘You, you’re a beautiful woman, you’re talented, you’re strong, I respect you. And you are my girl. You’re gon’ sit right here, and I’ma protect you.'”

Pinkett-Smith publicly reminisces about Shakur often.

In 2012, she released pictures of the two from their high schools days and talked in depth about their relationship.
